Conference reminder
This is just a reminder about the upcoming landmark conference,
Knowledge Held Hostage? Scholarly versus Corporate Rights in the Digital Age
being held Friday, June 18th.
Scholars of all types are facing tighter controls over the copyrighted text, images, and video they use for research and teaching purposes. This action-oriented meeting will bring together academics, librarians, legal
thinkers, and activists from around the country in a cross-disciplinary discussion of the unique problems that scholars and their institutions face in the growing field of digital rights management.
This one-day event takes place at the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia. Sponsored by the Annenberg Public Policy Center and Rice University in association with Public Knowledge and the Center for Public Domain, this conference will bring together academics, policymakers and professionals in communication, law, computer science, education, and fine arts. Confirmed panelists represent the best minds in their diverse areas, including Hal Abelson (MIT), Laura
Gasaway (UNC Chapel Hill), Peter Jaszi (American), Sut Jhally (UMass), Gigi Sohn (Public Knowledge), and Siva Vaidhyanathan (NYU).
The hosts will fully subsidize registration fees and meals. Hotel subsidies may also be available.
