Plug.in: The 7th Annual Jupiter Music Forum
15/05/2002

Produced in Association with Billboard
July 8-9, 2002
New York, NY
Featured Keynote Speaker:

Congressman Rick Boucher
The Future of Music
In 2001 the labels struck back, winning critical victories against MP3 and Napster. Subscription services such as Pressplay and MusicNet were still in development and tension between artists and labels heated up.
In the last 6 months, the digital landscape has evolved and subscription services have launched, but the music industry as a whole is ailing.

- Global music sales dropped 5% in 2001, leaving labels and retailers accusing peer-to-peer file sharing technologies of inciting music piracy
- Tension between artists and record labels has reached an all time high
- Anti-piracy issues have left consumer electronics and PC manufacturers with the option of satisfying their customers at the risk of litigation
How will the digital music scene change in the year ahead? What role will digital music services play in mending the ailing industry?
