Chiapaneco Meeting, opposed to neoliberialism
Strengthen Resistance and looking for Alternatives
October 9-12, 2002 Casa de la Cultura, El Carmen
San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas

THE CALL
It has been two years since the 2nd meeting South-North (today Convergence of Movements of the Towns of the Americas COMPA -) took place in October 2000 in San Felipe Ecatepec, municipality of San Cristo'bal de las Casas, Chiapas, many organizations of importance have been participating in several meetings and international forums on diverse topics. Some organizations attended some, and others went to all. Between these spaces, there was the Meeting of State Organizations in San Felipe Ecatepec. Then, in November of the same year, the 2nd meeting for the Democracy and Life in San Cristobal took place. In 2001 the regional meeting of COMPA took place in Oaxaca and initiated others whose process continues until this year and will follow until the following one, the meetings "For the Defense of Maize"; the three forums against PPP (Tapachula, Xela, and Managua); the First Mesoamerica Forum for the life 'Regional Front Against the Dams', in the Pete'n; the two weeks "For the Biological diversity and Culture" in San Cristobal and Xela; and the National Meeting for Peace in San Cristobal de las Casas. These are not all the spaces and forums that have been carried out, but are many. In these moments of interchange, important reflection, and information much has been carried out, it has given the opportunity to us to connect the processes towards Central America where bonds have been strengthened with those organizations. Today, thanks to these events the subjects like genetic engineering and pesticides, the Puebla-Panama Plan or the Free Trade Agreement, as well as the dams, nourishing sovereignty, Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), amongst many others, they have incorporated these social agendas generating or strengthen awareness, resistance, and specific actions in the communities. However, we left to the side since 2000 the common meeting space between the Chiapaneca Organizations. For that reason, two years after the meeting in San Felipe Ecatepec and for making concrete a common Plan of Action on concepts that affect all organizations and communities; and because we think that a plural space is necessary, ample, democratic, multi sectorial, where all women and men have, organization, to globalize the alternatives, the resistance and the hopes in which another world is possible,
