| | INTRO As the use of the Internet increases around the world, the amount of information within our reach is unimaginable. With access to the Web, one can find almost anything they are looking for, with information literally at our fingertips, being able to access it with the click of a mouse button. The number of possibilities is endless. We can do research on the net, play games on the net, read newspapers on the net, listen to music on the net, etc. It seems as if you can do anything, as if there are no boundaries. But WAIT! Although they are not always obvious, the boundaries certainly exist on the World Wide Web. Some of these inconspicuous boundaries are the copyright laws. Copyright on the Internet? Yes, it does exist, contrary to popular belief. How many times have you heard of someone's friend copying a CD off of the Internet? So often that it seems as if it's entirely normal and legal. However, in truth, it's ILLEGAL. This is just one example of the many acts that people take and, often unknowingly, break the law doing so. The problem is that many people think that the Internet is free information which they can use in any way desirable. But, one must not forget about the rights of the owner of the information, the copyright. |
